Safety before solutions.

OUR APPROACH

We don’t rush toward quick fixes.

We begin with safety. Emotional safety. Nervous system safety. The kind of safety that allows you or your child to explore hard things without fear of judgment.

Nothing you say will shock us. Nothing you bring into the room is “too much.”

We approach each story with curiosity over criticism, understanding that every behavior and coping pattern once made sense — even if it no longer serves you. Together, we untangle those patterns gently and intentionally, reconnecting you to your core self and helping you build skills that feel sustainable in real life.

Therapy here feels less like a formal appointment and more like a thoughtful conversation — grounded, honest, and collaborative.

WHO WE SUPPORT

Children

(Ages 0–10)

We support children navigating early attachment disruptions, trauma, anxiety, depression, and major life transitions. Through play, connection, and caregiver involvement, we help build regulation skills and strengthen secure attachment.

Parents & Caregivers

Parenting can feel overwhelming, especially when behaviors feel confusing or intense. We offer parent consultations to help you understand what’s behind the behavior, strengthen connection, and respond with calm and confidence.

LEARN MORE

YOUNG & ADULT WOMEN

We help women understand how early attachment shapes their present relationships, release patterns that no longer serve them, and grow in assertiveness, self-acceptance, and emotional safety.

Clinical Supervision

We also provide supervision for LCSWAs and LCMHCAs working toward full licensure, supporting growth with insight, ethics, and reflective practice.

OUR VALUEs

Create Safety

Healing begins when people feel emotionally safe. We prioritize trust and pacing over pressure.

Curiosity Over Judgment

We meet every story with openness and compassion.

Honor the Whole Story

Symptoms don’t exist in isolation. Family dynamics, identity, attachment history, and lived experience matter.

Therapist. Parent Supporter. Pattern Untangler.

Christine Rafter, MSW, LCSW

Christine Rafter therapist and founder of Throughline Psychotherapy serving Raleigh and Wake County North Carolina

I’m a trauma-informed therapist who works with children, parents, and women navigating anxiety, depression, attachment wounds, and the lasting impact of early experiences. My work is rooted in curiosity, compassion, and the belief that nothing about your story is “too much.”

I am not an overly formal person. Therapy with me feels more like a thoughtful conversation than a clinical interview. You can expect warmth, honesty, and collaboration. I will ask meaningful questions. I will gently challenge patterns that no longer serve you. And I will sit with you in the hard moments without rushing to fix them.

I believe that behaviors make sense in context. Children’s behaviors. Parents’ reactions. Adults’ coping patterns. When we understand the function behind them, we can respond with intention instead of shame.

More about christine

  • I work with:

    • Children ages 0–10 who have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, adoption, foster care transitions, divorce, or significant life stressors

    • Parents who want deeper insight into their child’s behaviors and tools to strengthen attachment

    • Women exploring how family-of-origin dynamics and attachment patterns continue to shape their present relationships

    • Associate clinicians seeking thoughtful, reflective supervision on their path toward full licensure

My approach integrates trauma-informed care, attachment-based frameworks, and practical skill-building. I care deeply about helping clients feel not only understood, but empowered.

  • Outside of the therapy room, the things that ground me most are connection, curiosity, and time spent with the people I love. I value meaningful conversations, quiet moments in nature, and the small rituals that help life feel balanced.

These same values show up in my work. I believe healing happens when people feel safe enough to be honest about their experiences and curious about their patterns without judgment. Therapy isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about creating space to explore, understand, and move forward in ways that feel authentic.

At the heart of my work is a deep respect for each person’s story. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable showing up exactly as you are.

  • When I’m not working with clients, you’ll usually find me spending time with family and friends, getting outside, or enjoying a quiet moment to recharge. I love being in nature, whether that’s walking, exploring new places, or just appreciating a calm moment outdoors.

I’m someone who values balance and connection in everyday life. Good conversations, laughter, and simple moments of joy are important to me. I believe those small, grounding experiences help us stay present and connected to what matters most.

Just like in therapy, I try to approach life with curiosity, compassion, and a sense of humor when things feel messy. Because life rarely goes perfectly, and that’s part of what makes it meaningful.ext goes here
